Build a tiny home and learn construction skills with

Girl Contracting and Industry Professionals

Over 4 weeks, campers ages 10-14 jump into action along Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway, participating in an exciting educational and skill-building program facilitating the design and build of  Tiny Homes for West Philadelphia. The campers will engage in hands-on build sessions by licensed trade professionals.

A unique selection of outdoor activities, speaking engagements and field trips, taking advantage of University, Corporate, and Local Government Partnerships. Real-life experiences in the design and construction industry, using tiny homes and the City of Philadelphia landscape. The camp culminates with a celebration of the completion of the Tiny Homes.

Purpose:

To help address the race/gender underrepresentation in the design and construction industry using a “hands-on” educational and skills-based approach.

Goal:

To empower young kids to explore non-traditional careers and leadership roles in the design, architecture, and construction and strategies for starting a business.

Outcomes:

  • Campers will develop knowledge, positive attitudes, and skills in the design and build environment.
  • Campers will expand their career horizons by learning about the opportunities in design and construction.
  • Campers will cultivate mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities with industry professionals while having fun.

Why Enroll Your Child In Camp We Build?

This construction camp is a great opportunity to allow kids to learn skills they wouldn’t be able to get elsewhere. After all, where else can a middle schooler put on a tool belt and hard hat and build a whole tiny home in four weeks? Learning the construction trade requires hands-on learning and building, and we can provide your child with that opportunity in a safe, supportive environment. Construction skills also include learning about architecture, engineering, electrical work, and more. Plus, along with practical construction skills, camp is a great place to build self-esteem, teamwork, and problem-solving. We also hope to inspire and mentor kids in order to show them that no matter their race or gender, they have a place in the construction industry.
